Neurologists explain that babies after birth won't grow any new cells ever. So, how does the baby's brain grow? The answer is by increasing the number of connections between the neurons of brain. Each neuron within the brain is just like an octopus with thousands of tentacles. They carry signals that are able to make people to hear, see, feel, move, think, etc. It's where a baby stores information and memories. A baby arrives with very limited numbers of connections between his neurons of brain. It only allows a baby to hear, feel and see in black and white. Yet within just a few days after birth, a baby's brain begins to analyze the environment. With every experience, each single sound that he hears, each visual picture he catches, another connection in his brain is being built. The more the connections, the more the baby is capable of complex thinking. The question again, how to help baby to build good connections? many people think it depends on parents' genes. In fact, your genes only determine and control your baby's basic functions like breathing, heartbeat, and reflexes. That means that trillions of connections will be determined by the stimulation that your give your child throughout his early years. Yes, Stimulation Get the picture? But why do I rate baby sign language above other educational programs that stimulate a baby's brain potential? Because it's natural, babies gesture on their own. There are many sensory or educational programs out there will benefit a baby. But the only one I personally endorse is the one that comes naturally. And it's the only one I know that works on my babies, my students, my friends' babies and many many people's babies I know ----- Communicating with a baby through gestures or signs.
