The third basic baby sign language is MILK which is something your baby is able to see and touch (his milk bottle or your breast). When you teach the sign for MILK, you have a different kind of association to make. sketch map below shows your the sign for MILK, your hand opens and closes as if you were milking a cow.
Good ways to teach your baby sign MILK
1) Before you feed your baby milk, ask and sign to your baby: "MILK? Would you like to have some MILK?" Repeating the sign and question a few time. Then give your baby his milk.
2) During the time you are feeding your baby, while his attention is focused on you, reinforce the sign by asking and signing, "MILK? Do you like MILK?" It should be difficult to feed your baby and teach sign to your baby at the same time, ask your family member's help to sign and say "MILK? Do you like Milk?" while your are feeding your baby, making sure to make the sign within your baby's sight line.
After you taught a sign to your baby, wait for a few weeks. Then play an imitation game with your baby. Take your baby's hands and gently shape them to form the sign. Be notice that don't force your baby to play this. Play it occasionally, especially when your baby is happy. Encourage him to imitation you.
