Iconic Signs There are signs that mimic the action of what you are going to say to your baby. Iconic signs are the easiest signs to teach your baby. Let's take the iconic sign for Making A Phone Call (TELEPHONE) as an example. Put thumb to your ear, and pinky finger to your mouth, that's it.

Abstract signs These signs are a little harder to teach to your baby because these meanings are difficult to be expressed by a simple sign (gesture). To teach these signs, you will need to make an association which combines with several single sigs so your baby will understand the connection. You will understand better in the first three signs ----- MORE, EAT, and MILK

The first signs you will teach to your baby are MORE, EAT, and MILK. They are important concepts to little baby, that's why they become the first three signs. In fact, in baby's earliest stages, babies are pretty much care about something relates to More, Eat and Milk. They want something to eat, something more, and more milk. Another reason they work well is that none of them look similar. Either your baby or you won't get confused.

MORE it the very first sign that your baby will learn. It's also the foundation sign in basic baby sign language. Please notice: If your baby is younger than 12 month, stay with this sign until he or she is able to master it. It helps your baby to have less less confusing and better understanding about the first sign, and also you will able to see the results faster. Once your baby gets it, move forward to "EAT" and "MILK". If your baby is elder than 12 months, you may introduce him all three signs, but do it one by one, Do not be rush!
