Bouncing ABCs

Bouncing ABCs is game to help children get onto to letter recognition.

Material Needed:

Beach ball

Permanent marker

Instruction

Step1:

Using a permanent marker to write big capital alphabet letters on each side of the beach ball.

Step2:

Explain to children that they need to bounce the ball to each other and catch it. Tell them not to bounce the ball too high, otherwise the ball will go out of the group area.

Step3:

Have the children stand in a big circle. Pass the ball to one child and direct the child to bounce it to someone else in the circle.

Step4:

The child catching the ball identifies the letters his or her hands are touching. Point out that they might need to identify more letters at one time depending on their touching position. After the letters are named, the catcher bounces the ball to another child.

Keep going in this way until all the children have had at least one turn catching and identifying letters.

Variation

For an extension and add more challenging into the game, Ask the catcher to say words that begin with the letter his or her hands are touching.
