Fun Baby Games

Fun Baby Games on this page are specially designed for ages 9-17 months babies, study shows these games effectively stimulate baby's brain, build more genius connections between baby's brain nerves. Your baby will benefit from these fun and well-structured games.

#1 Among Fun Baby Games --- Shoe box house

Material Needed and Preparation

Take a shoe box, pick the long sides of shoe box, then draw a doorway on them. Cut on three of the lines of the doorway but leave one side uncut so that the door can be opened and closed. Place a stuffed animal( name this stuffed animal, such as “evan” and call it’s name to baby) which is just a little smaller than the opening door in clear view of the baby.

Play Instruction

Show your baby the shoe box house. Tell your baby that you are going to open the door of the house. Open the door of the shoe box house and place “Evan” inside. Close the door and tell the baby that “Evan” is inside the house.

Open the door and take “Evan” out of the show box house and place it beside the baby. Tell the baby that Evan is outside the house. Allow the baby to hold Evan and put it inside of house and pull it out of house, observe your baby’s reaction. Be sure to say the words “inside” and “outside” to your baby as you move Evan accordingly. Encourage the your baby to do this independently and praise him for any positive response that he makes.

#2 Among Fun Baby Games ----Feely Squares

This activity develops an awareness of different colors, the square shape, different textures of clothe, and enhance the sense of touch.

Material Needed and preparation

Cut a piece of cardboard into 12 square pieces, size is about 12X12 centimetres each. Collect some scrapes of different textured and colored fabrics, such as corduroy, silk, fake fur, suded, metalllic, quilted material. Cut two pieces of each scrap the same size as the squares and glue them to the cardboard you cut before.

Play Instruction

Let your baby to TOUCH and feel each clothe square, touch one at a time. After all of the squares have been examined by your baby, put the squares side by side to form a patchwork quilt and let the baby to explore. Notice which squares attract your baby's attention. Encourage your baby to talk about the differences between clothes squares. Such as silk is smooth, it's yellow; corduroy feels dumpy, it's white. If you are teaching sign language to your baby, it is a good time to say and sign TOUCH to your baby as your baby is exploring the clothes squares or patchwork.

#3 Among Fun Baby Games ---- The Magic Mirror

This game develops your baby's listening skills, visual skills, Enhance his vocabulary.

Material Needed and preparation

Draw an outline of a mirror with a handle in a piece of cardboard which is about 20x30 centimetres. Cut out mirror part in the frame.

Play Instruction

Look through the hole and pretend that it is a "magic" mirror. pretend to see you other family members in the mirror and call their names. Choose the objects in the room which are in a clear view of your baby. Use the Mirror to see these objects, then name them For instance, you may say "I see a chair." Remember to put your good voice into the game, it will serve to keep the baby's interest.

Then, put the "magic" mirror up to your baby's face. have your baby look at you, then say,"(your baby's name) sees Mummy". Try to have your baby hold the mirror and assist him to look at different things around him, you my call out the names for your baby. If your baby does not understand, you may try to hold the different objects right in front of your baby, then repeat its name. This game teaches the baby the names of different things.

If you are teaching baby sign language to your little one, sign as you are repeating the names of different things.

#4 Among Fun Baby Games --- Faces

This game develops your baby's skill in identifying family members, association skills and listening skills.

Material Needed and preparation

Cut a baby face from a magazine, glue it onto one side of piece of cardboard. It will be perfect if you use a picture of your own baby in a frame.

Play Instruction

Place the picture of the baby face down on the floor. Slowly turn the picture over and say, "pee-a-boo". Put the picture face down again and repeat the game. Continue doing this until your baby tries to turn the picture over by himself.

Meanwhile, it is a good opportunity to practice baby sign language to your baby, say and sign "MORE", "DOWN, "FACE",etc throughout the game.

#5 Among Fun Baby Games ---- Move and Roll

This game develops a further awareness of left and right, eye-hand coordination, helps to increase your baby's attention span.

Play instruction

Put your baby on the floor. Lay the baby on his back and gently roll his body from left to right several times in succession. As you do this, talk to the baby and as he is being rolled say, " Whee-ee," funny voice will make this rolling game more interesting. When you stop rolling your baby's body, wait and see your baby's reaction. Does he try to keep rolling on himself, or does he want to stop? if your baby has no interest in continue, try it another time. Remember, this game is important because it involves the coordination of many muscles. It also assists in reinforcing left and right laterality .

Make a variation for this game, you may obtain a large ball that can be rolled easily to the baby. Sit on the floor and put your baby in a sitting position facing you. Roll the ball to your baby and encourage him to roll the ball back to you. Praise him for any positive response that he makes and continue with his activity as long as your baby shows interested in it. This game should be repeated often.

If you are teaching baby sign language to your little one, say and sign "SIT", "BALL", "PLAY","MORE", etc. throughout the game.

#6 Among Fun Baby Games --- Poking

This game develops your baby's eye-hand coordination, enhances the sense of touch, helps him to aware the differences between "rough" and "soft" textures.

Material Needed and preparation

Obtain a small, smooth bottle cap. Make six holes in two picnic plates by pressing the cap firmly on the plates. Cut a large sheet of sandpaper the size of one plate and lay it inside one of the inverted plates so that the rough side faces the holes in that plate. Pack loose cotton, cotton balls or picnic plate facing down on top of other plate. Staple or tape two plates containing the sandpaper and cotton together.

Play instruction

Poke your index finger in each of holes on the sandpaper side. This is the rough side. Turn the connected plates over and poke your index finger at random in the holes on that side. This side feels soft. Encourage your baby to use his index finger to poke it in the holes at random. Show him both sides of the plates and allow him to feel and explore both sides independently. If your baby is reluctant to play this game, do it another time. Make this game more interesting by adding Chinese Chequer board into the game.

If you are teaching baby sign language to your little one, pick up possible signs you think that is able to practice with your baby throughout this game.

#7 Among Fun Baby Games ---- Mirror

Play Instruction

Begin the dance by facing each other. The best way to teach baby how to mirror someone is to mirror what baby does, copying the movements. Whatever movement baby makes, you do the same thing at the same time. Raise your arms, touch your nose, do whatever you think baby is capable of doing back.

#8 Among Fun Baby Games ---- Box of socks

You know? A box of old socks offers hours of entertainment to babies.

Material Needed

Laundry basket

Play Instruction

First let baby have fun with socks trying them on and pulling them off. Try to choose loose-fitting socks, you know, the kind that don't require a crowbar to remove! When baby tires of trying the socks on, they may want to throw them in the air and watch them float to the floor. Roll the socks inside themselves to form softballs. Start tossing the socks into the basket. Begin close to basket and back up as baby gets better at making baskets. You can play a variety of games out of softball socks with your baby. For example, set up some stuffed toys and roll the socks on the floor, throw the ball trying to hit them, or throw the socks up in the air and catch them.

#9 Among Fun Baby Games --- Balloon Fun

Babies love balloons. They're colorful and lightweight. They seem to float and fly, which is what most babies believe they can do as well. Balloons bring a lot of fun to you and your baby, but they are also dangerous, so make sure to supervise closely and keep baby from trying to pop the balloon. Besides, regular helium balloons can be used as well, but the mylar ones are less dangerous when popped.

Play Instruction

Whether baby is crawling or walking, pulling something on a string is a grand lesson in cause and effect. When Baby moves, the balloon moves along too. You may want to take a turn at pulling the balloon, and ask baby to follow it. Baby will also love to throw balloons in the air and watch them fall to the ground, and kick them around the room.
