Fuzzy shapes craft helps children to recognize and make the basic shapes

Material you will need

Large cards

Markers

4 Long chenille stems

Picture of circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond

Instruction:

Step1:

Show the Picture of circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond to your child, ask he(she) what's his(her) favorite shape? What is it called? what are things on these shapes?

Step2:

Give you child four chenille stems and show him(her) how to bend and twist stems into variety of shapes.

Step3:

Facilitate you child use the stems to create the shapes shown on the pictures. While he(she) works, ask him(her) what makes each shape different from the others. Encourage your child to use simple words to explain what he(she) thinks, such as a circle is round, a square has four sides, a triangle has three sides, etc.

Variation:

For an extension, using shape words to tell a story. Let the child create the shapes with the chenille stems as he(she) hears the words.
