Infant Games For toys play 1----Black and white pictures

suitable for ages 0 and up babies.

Material Needed

White paperBlack Markers

Instruction

Newborn babies are attracted to the sharply contrasting colors of black and white. They also like the bold patterns of diagonals, bull's-eyes, and checkerboards. The human face is a favorite of all babies. Take the white paper and make a simple face with hair, eyebrows, eyes nose and mouth. Make some other patterns. Tape your masterpieces to the inside of the crib, the bassinet, or the car window. Babies see best seven to night inches from their face.


Infant Games For toys play 2---Baby watch games

suitable for ages o to 3 months babies


1) Find or buy many pretty colored ribbons. Attach the ribbons to a stick and wave the stick in front of baby making short, jerky motions as well as long looping motions.


2) Play swat the toy. Tie a long shoestring to a small stuffed toy. Swing the toy in front of baby and let baby try to reach for it as the toy slowly swings past.


3) Buy a pinwheel and stick it in a houseplant, out in the garden, or some place breezy where baby can watch it.


4) Tie a rob across the top of a crib or playpen. Use large clothespins and attach various toys to the robe. Change the toys regularly.


Infant Games For toys play 3---Mobiles

Suitable for ages 0 to 6 months babies

Material Needed


Embroidery hoop, hanger, or pie tin

Heavy-weight string or yarn

Assorted household objects or small stuffed animals

Ceilling book

Instruction

The idea of a mobile is to hang household objects from the hanger, pie tin, or embroidery hoop. The mobile is then hung from the ceiling by a hook. Here are a few ideas to get you started.


1) Light mobile: take pieces of cardboard, cut into different shapes, and cover them with aluminum foil. When the light from a window hits the foil, the light will reflect around the room


2) Hang small, brightly colored boxes that comes in


3) Hang small stuffed animals or figures face down so baby can look up and see them


Hand small jingle bells, or other things that make a musical sound when the wind hits them

When baby is old enough to reach up and touch, or pull on the hanging objects, the mobile should be removed and more age-appropriate toys should be introduced.


Infant Games For toys play 4--- New switch-it game

Suitable for ages 6 months and up babies

Instruction

Babies love to hold, grasp, and squeeze everything. Take advantage of baby's curious nature. Place baby on your lap, then hold a toy out in front of him. Once baby has the toy in his hand, hold another one just within reach out in front of that same hand. Watch as baby tries to figure out what he is going to do with the toy he is already holding and doesn't really want to let go of. Sometimes baby will just drop the toy he is holding, but after a while baby will figure out now to switch the toy to the other hand so that both toys can be held at the same time.


Infant Games For toys play 5--- Textured touch

Suitable for ages 9 months and up babies

Material Needed


Assorted textured pieces: velvet, silk, terry cloth, burlap, leather, fake fur,corduroy, sandpaper


Flat box with lid

Instruction

Take the thin box and punch two finger holes in the top next to each other. Put a textured piece in the box. Show baby how to put finger in the box and feel the texture, then put your finger in the box and play with baby's finger as you both feel the textured piece. Make sure to put words to the textures you are feeling: smooth, rough, silky, fuzzy, soft, or hard. As baby gets older, you can put the textured piece as well as other objects in a paper bag one at a time and have baby guess what is in the bag.
