Infant Games For Drama Play 1--- Spider story

Suitable for ages 0 and up babies

Cradle baby in your arms. Use your hands and arms to act out this classic story about a tenacious little spider who can't kick the water spout habit. One hand is the spider crawling upward, the other washes over it like rain. Circle your arms up around your sunny face. If holding baby, use your available hand to act out the spider part

The eensy,weensy spider

Down came the rain and washed the spider out

Out came the sun and dried up all the rain.

So the eensy, weensy spider climbed up the spout again

Material Needed

Two paper plates

Watercolor markers

Straw

Tape

Instruction

On one plate, draw the shape of a half-moon with a simple face, with eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, and chin. On the other plate, draw the shape of the sun with a face drawn on it too. As the moon comes up the sun might go down and vice versa.

Mr. Moon, Mr. Moon

You are up too soon

The Sun's still high in the sky

So go back to your bed

and cover up your head

and wait for the day to go by

Infant Games For Drama Play 4 ---telephone talk

Suitable for ages 6 months and up babies

Toy telephone

Instruction

Have a pretend conversation with someone special that baby knows, like grandma or grandpa. Talk about something you and baby did that day. Then give baby a turn. You can say, " Grandma wants to talk with you too." Listen to the sounds and intonations baby makes while on the phone. Does baby sound like someone you know? Exaggerate your vocal intonation and facial expressions while modeling phone communication skills. In no time baby will be trying to imitate your sounds.

Infant Games For Drama Play 5---Puppet Play

Suitable for ages 6 months and up babies

Puppets are usually baby's first experience with the idea of acting. It begins when mom or dad puts puppet on a hand and talks to baby over the side of the crib, and from there the magic of imagination begins to bloom. Think of all the different scenarios that can be acted out with puppets. You can make paper three-inch tall shapes of baby's favorite characters and glue them to a popsicle stick to act out songs or stories when you sing or say them. As baby grows, the puppets can be used to act out feelings or different activities baby does during the day. They are also a perfect toys for traveling games.

Infant Games For Drama Play 6---Cause and effect games

Suitable for ages 9 months and up babies

Baby learns a lot about cause and effect through play. Ask baby to touch your nose. When he does, surprise him by sticking out your tough. Do this a few times so baby expects you to stick your tongue out. Then surprise him again by doing something else when he touches your nose, like smiling, tickling him, or saying a funny word.

Next, fill your cheeks with air, then take baby's finger and push on your cheeks. As you let the air come out of your month your head tilts the right, as you fill your cheeks back up with air, your head sits straight on your shoulder again. Be creative and come up with other cause and effect games of your own.
