#11 Among Smart Infant Games ----- Favorite Nursery Rhymes

This game enriches your little one's language skill, develops his listening skills, catches his interest in repetition as well in rhyme.

Material Needed and Preparation

Buy a nursery rhyme book.

Play Instruction

Choose some of four favorite rhymes and read, recite or sing these rhymes for your little one to hear. Repeat each one several times. Read one at a time.

Show your baby the picture that correspond to the rhyme. The brief glance at the pictures will help your baby to develop beginning associations of pictures and words. Rhymes and rhythms are really useful in developing early listening skills.

Repeat the nursery rhymes often. Your little one will learn to listen. As he reaches talking ages, he will recite parts of his favorite rhymes spontaneously.

#12 Among Smart Infant Games ---- Reach to Grasp

This game develops your baby's eye and hand coordination, build skill in making eye contact, develops an awareness of left and right, enhances the sense of touch.

Preparation

Prop the baby up in a sitting position on the floor. Place a cotton reel, a ball and a rattle, you may also choose three similar items, in a row on a low table in order to let your baby easily reach them.

Play Instruction

Move one object on the left first to see if your baby attempt to reach or grasp the object. Move the next object closer and observe your baby's reaction. Move the third object closer and again observe your baby. Does he reach for all the objects? Does he show a preference for one? Repeat this game and encourage your baby to feel each object. Help is needed as necessary.

Variation 1

Choose another interesting objects to substitute current ones and repeat this game. Remember to move the objects from left to right as you show to your baby. This will give your baby a clear sense of left and right progression, which is prerequisite to reading and writing.

#13 Among Smart Infant Games ---- Pat-a-cake

This game develops many positive aspects on your baby, such as, more awareness of hands, listening skills, and observational skills.

Preparation

Hold your baby in your lap and encourage him to watch as you place your hands together. Move your hands apart and then together again. Repeat this several times so that the baby is aware of what you are doing.

Continue to do this as you say, "Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake,baker's man, bake me a cake as fast as you can. Roll it and par it and mark it with B, and put it in the oven for baby and me."

#14 Among Smart Infant Games ---- Finger Play

This game develops your baby's listening skills, observational skills, his further awareness of fingers, more awareness of left and right.

Play Instruction

Hold your baby's left hand and touch his thumb. Say:" This is thumbkin." Touch the forefinger and say:" This is Pointer." Touch the middle finger and say:" This is Middleman." Touch the ring finger and say:" This is Ringman." Touch the little finger and say:" This is Pinky."

Use both of your hands to play a pretend conversation with the left and right fingers as you say or sing the song below. Notice: (L) represents the left hand fingers. (R) represents the right hand fingers. The words are:


Where is Thumbkin? Where is Thumbkin?

(L)Here I am. (R) Here I am

(L)How are you today, Sir?

(R)very well I thank you.

(L)Run away

(R)Run away

Repeat the song for each finger and substitute the correct finger for the words, Thumbkin. For example:" Where is my friend,Pointer?", "Where is my friends, Middlerman?""Where is my friend, Ringman?""Where is my friend, Pinky?" Repeat this several time. This game will help to enrich your baby's learning ability.

#15 Among Smart Infant Games ----- Play With Toes

This game develops more awareness of the toes and other body parts in your baby, improve his listening skill, enhances his sense of touch.

Play Instruction

Touch the baby's bare right foot. Use good voice have your baby's attention. Begin with the big toe and move to the little toe and say the following rhyme.


This little piggy went to market (touch the big toe)

This little piggy stayed home. (Touch the second toe)

This little piggy had roast beef. (Touch the third toe>

And this little piggy had none.(Touch the fourth toe)

This little piggy cried,"Wee,wee,wee" all the way home (Touch the little toe)

Say the rhyme several times and repeat this game many times in the future. The tactile sensation of touching each of the body parts will assist your baby in associating body movement with his body parts.

#16 Among Smart Infant Games ----- Drop and Fall

This game develops your baby's eye and hand coordination, the awareness of the concept "down", develops his sense of touch.

Preparation

Obtain an object such as a spoon or a clothes peg. Show it to the baby and allow him to hold and feel it.

Play Instruction

Place your baby in a sitting position on the floor. Hold the object slightly higher than your baby's eye view. Drop the object, then observe your baby's response.Does your baby attempt to reach for the object? Repeat this game several times, emphasizing the word "down" as you drop the object.

Variation 1

Choose some other safe objects for your baby to feel, hold, drop and watch as each object falls. As each object is dropped, stress the word "down" to help your baby to reinforce the concept of "down".
