Kids Concentration Games
Kids concentration games are closely relate to listening games in the way that listening plays and important role in them. These games are designed specially for children aged 8-12. Kids concentration games require children have a higher degree of attentiveness and discipline for successful play.
Feeling the RhythmInstructionHave the children form a circle. let one child to think up a song and, without saying anything, tap out the first line (To make the game easier, ask children to pick out a short line to tap out) of the rhythm on her or his neighbor's back. Then the neighbor passes on to the child next to her or him the rhythm that she/he felt, and so on. Carry on until the rhythm passes around the whole circle. The final child to get the rhythm should clap it. Compare it to the original rhythm. Then have another child start a new rhythm. This game is also good for you to play with your children at home.
Clapping GamesWhat you need:One rhythm instrument InstructionSeparate the children into two groups. Have each half sit in a separate area. You pretend to be a metronome and beat out a regular tempo on the rhythm instrument (if you don't have rhythm instrument, you may tap a tempo on your body). When you signal, have both begin counting from the same note. Now ask one group of children to clap on the fifth count, and the other group on the third count. See if they can keep this up for one or two minutes. Then you deliberately clap at the wrong time to try to confuse the children. This can also be repeated a few time, with different members creating the disturbance. Next try this game using three groups or four groups. This game could be one of difficult kids concentration games, notice that the tempo has to be slow at the beginning. Ask or guide the groups of children to change their count regularly so that they don't simply clap by rote.
Musical hand-in-handWhat you need:An instrument for each childInstructionInvite children to form a circle which will be divided into two groups during the game. So make sure each child knows which group they belong to. Give each child an instrument and have them make up their own short tune or rhythm using it. The short piece should lend itself to being continually repeated. Firstly ask everyone to play together. Then, when you make a sign, have children split up into two groups. Two groups should switch and play the tune of somebody else, such as the child sitting next to them. Now you have two children playing each song. Make a sign again and guide different pairs join in with other pairs, so that songs are being played by four children each. Then have the groups of four become groups of eight. Repeat this sequence until the whole group is playing the same song. Then find out who created the song that survived this process.
Cacophony without laughingWhat you need:Index cards with titles of songs written on themInstructionSplit up the children into three groups. Each group takes a turn to play while the others look on. Give each child of the first group an index card with the title of a different well-know song written on it. When you make a sign, have each child of first group sing the song on his or her index card. They must do this without laughing. Determine beforehand whether they should sing the whole song or only one verse. Anyone who laughs gets a forfeit. Then have the other groups take their turn, preferably with different songs. The group with the fewest forfeit wins.
Rhythm GameWhat you need:An instrument for each child InstructionHave group of children choose an instrument and make up a short rhythm. Then have one child play his/ her rhythm. The child next to him/her repeats his/her rhythm and plays her/his own. The next child repeats both rhythms and adds a third. Carry on in this way until everyone gets a opportunity to add his or her own rhythm.
