number concept math game for kids

Material Needed

Colored paper art tape

100 strips

glue

Step1

Introduce this game by involving the children in a discussion on how many 100 is? What might 100 of some thing look like?

Step2

Evenly distribute the paper strip to each child. Ask the children to count how many strips each of them has, and ask if any of them has 100 strips.

Step3

After the children discover that no one has that many, explain to them that all their strips together make 100 strips. Then help children to work together to make the strips into a paper chain. Glue the ends of the art tape to connect the links.

Step4

Stretch the paper chain across the group area, and have the children count chain links together. This shows concretely how many paper links needed to reach 100.

Variation

Present the visual concept of 100 with any number of materials, such as buttons, dry beans or pills. Choose some available for the children to use to practice counting to 100.

Notice: the younger children will need adult supervision with these small objects.
