Move the body games allow you to observe the baby's head, eyes, hands, arms, legs, feet's movements and reactions. By touching the baby's body parts you are giving your baby his first awareness of his body through the sense of touch. As you exercise your baby's body parts through all the move the body games, you will notice that they baby will stretch his arms and legs as he adjusts to his new environment.
Light reflectionThis game helps to develop baby’s visual stimulation, awareness of reflection of light. How does your baby respond to light? A newborn baby is sensitive to light, and moving objects, and will usually respond by turning his or her head to follow the stimulus. Instruction Open the blinds, draw the curtains or turn on a lamp. Notice if your baby’s head turns to the light. Close the blinds or curtains or turn off a lamp. Notice if your baby’s head turns toward the direction of light. Be aware to avoid shining the light in the baby’s eyes. Let the light shine on the wall. This is how you teach your baby to react to a light stimulus and how to move his head from side to side for a purpose. Remember to talk to your baby during the game, it will help baby to recognize and respond to his mother’s voice at a very early age. Moving an object This move the body game develops baby’s early awareness of moving objects, tactile perception and auditory stimulation. InstructionHold a rattle or other object in front of the baby’s line of vision. Move the rattle from left to right, then from right to left. Observe your baby’s eye responses. Does your baby look at it? Do your baby’s eyes follow the rattle from side to side? If your baby’s eyes do not react to moving rattle or any moving objects, do not be worried. Infants do not develop at the same rate in all areas. However, repeat this game many times throughout the days and weeks with your baby, and observe his or her responses. Mirror and pendulum This game helps baby to recognize his own image, develops his listening skills and visual stimulation. InstructionMirror game: hold the baby close enough to look at himself in a large mirror. Observe baby’s expression, smile or coo? Talk to the baby and call his name as your both look in the mirror.Pendulum game: place baby in an infant seat or chair. Be sure to support the baby’s head with an infant collar. Hang a cotton reel, funny face drawn on a paper plate, use a piece of elastic to attach the paper plate funny face to the top of a door, doorway or ceiling fan. Swing the object on the string back and forth like a pendulum. Encourage your baby to watch it move back and forth. Response to noisy This game develops baby’s listening awareness,eye-hand coordination and association. InstructionMake a sound with a noisy rattle or bell. Observe if your baby turns his head, eyes or body in the direction of sound? Then make the sound on the left side of your baby and observe it again. Next, move to the right side of the baby and make a sound. Repeat this game several times. Move it first to the left of the baby. Let the baby touch the rattle or bell. Hold the rattle or bell in front of baby. Wait to see if your baby reaches for it? If so, let the baby grasp it. If the baby does not reach for it, move to the left and make a sound with the rattle or bell. Then watch the baby’s reaction again. Large muscle game This move the body game develops your baby’s further awareness of his own body, more of an awareness of left and right laterality and a vague awareness of hand grasping. InstructionPlace your baby face down on a quilt that has been spread out on the floor. Gently straighten your baby’s left arm and observe the baby’s response. Do the same with left and right legs. Does your baby lift his head and focus on his arms when you straighten them? Repeat this game several times through the week or the month, and note if there is any progress. When your baby shows some sign of response to movement of the arms and legs, then you may put a stuffed animal in front of the baby. Does your baby try to reach for it or does he show no any interests? Repeat these games until your baby responds successfully. Different Faces This move the body game develops the baby’s awareness of his face, a purpose for looking and listening, an interest in interacting with another person. InstructionUse a large wall mirror, show the baby his face. Call your baby’s name and speak to him as you both face the mirror: I see (your baby’s name), With the baby still looking in the mirror, you may use a paper plate to gradually cover baby’s view. As you do this, say “peek-a-boo, I see (your baby’s name). Repeat this few times. With the baby watching, try to hide your face with the plate and slowly show your face by moving away the plate. Once again say: “ peek-a-boo, I see (your baby’s name).” Meanwhile, observe your baby’s reaction. Repeat this game at various times. Your baby will become more aware of his name.
