ocean weaves Craft involves children in creating a bottle of sea waves.

Material need

smock

table covering

clear plastic bottles with screw-on lids

water

salad oil

blue food coloring

Miscellaneous items--- colorful beads, small pieces of foil, ample glitter

glue

Instruction:

Step1:

Talk about ocean waves or tell a story about oceans to your child

Step2:

Have your child wear a smock, then help him(her) to make an ocean bottle as follows:

1) Use table covering to cover the table, fill up a bottle 3/4 full with water on the table.

2) Add drops of blue food coloring until the water is colored.

3) while your child watching the color spreads through the water, add salad oil until the liquid arrives at approximately 1/2 inch from the bottle top.

4) Drop in some of the beads, foil, and glitter. Screw the lid of bottle on tightly, glue the lid on if there is any possibilities your child might take it off.

5) let your child hold the bottle horizontally and rock it softly. Since the oil and water won't mix, the effect will be like the motion of sea waves. The beads, folis, and glitter could be sunken treasure or colorful sea life.

Variations:

Play ocean surf sounds, and have your child rock their bottles in time with the surf. Then let them sway their bodies with the surf sounds.
