Preschool Music Games

Preschool music games should be part of every preschool child's play routine, preschooler will benefit from playing music games regularly, such as becoming totally absorb in an activity; thinking, feeling, and acting in an integrated way. Child will also come into contact with own musical potential in a way that is spontaneous and nonjudgmental. Once a child gets used to hearing music, or even better, making music, he or she becomes alert to the sounds of music in his or her daily. Below you will find my student's favorite preschool music games

Socks with music

This is one of universal preschool music games which would also bring fun to toddlers, or even schoolers.

Material Needed

Socks

Laundry basket

Cardboard boxes

Music

Instruction

Pick up a collection of socks and turn each one into a ball. Place the sock-balls in a laundry basket at one end of the room. Place the cardboard boxes around the laundry basket at variable distances, with some of the baskets a few feet away and others six or more feet away.

Play the music, this is the signal for all the children to run to the laundry basket and begin tossing the sock-balls into any of the boxes. Stop the music, and it's the time for the children to run and grab the sock-balls, around the room or in the boxes, an toss them back into the laundry basket.

Dance contest

Material Need

Music, choose a good beat for dancing

Boom box or stereo

Skill scarves, hats, costumes

Instruction

Have one adult be in the room to supervise the safety of the children Help the children outfit themselves with a colorful accessory or two.

Start to play the music and challenge the children to show you their dance moves. The children will have lots of fun imitating one another. Stop the music from time to time and announce the "score"(better to give them 10) for the group of dancer or announce the winner of the dance contest. Make sure to single out every child as a winner over the course of the game.

Identify Letters

This music game allows your child to detect what's inside of the box.

Material Needed

Scissors(for adults only)

Blank index cards

Markers (for adults only)

Small gift box

Music

Instruction

Cut several index cards in half of quarters so that each piece will fit inside the small gift box. Write one letter of the alphabet on each piece, then turn all the piece facedown in a pile. Have the children sit in a circle around the pile of cards on the floor.

Choose one card without letting the children see it, put it inside the gift box and shut the lid. When you start to play the music, the children rush to the box to one another around the circle. After just a short time, stop music. The child holding the box opens it, takes out the card, and identifies the letter. Once the letter is identified correctly, the child holding the box discards the card. She or he picks another card from the pile, places it inside the box, and shuts the lid . Then repeat the play.

Art paper or newsprint

Washable, nontoxic finger paint in various colors

Disposable plastic picnic plates

A few drops of liquid dish detergent to aid in cleanup

Pour a small amount of each color into its own paper plate. Add a few drops of dish detergent to each of these puddles of paint to make easy in cleanup. Place the chairs so that each child's feet can easily touch the paper inside of the wading pool, and position one plate of paint by each of their feet.

Turn on the music, and let the toe painting begin! Rotate the plates of paint after a few minutes so that each child gets to try out all the colors. Refresh the paper and paint when the children make a request.

You may make variations of preschool music games above by choosing different kinds of music to play during the games.
