Reading games for teaching 2

Continue with my reading games for teaching 2. Now that your child has mastered the idea of listening for parts of words, he can fine-tune his listening skills in readiness for all the chunks of sound he will come upon in real reading. He can tune into words endings. Middles come later, because they are more varied; for now, ending s are good to listen out for. In the first small words your child reads, endings are pretty close to the beginnings!

Game 2: What's on the end?

Preparation: None. Just have the following list of words in front of you and follow the easy steps. Use dialogue, in cold, if you want to.

1. You are going to listen for endings now. Tell me what sound each word ends in. Let's practice. If I dog, what is the ending? What about goat? And trick? Repeat the word if you need to, and give your child time to answer. If your child is not sure about the sounds, think up more words and practice some more.

2. Here are some more words:* Drum *Top *Smell *Run *Skip *Truck *Leaf * Seal *Ant *Shop *Team *Bean *Jeep
