Sound Effects
This game allows children to get to make up sound effects and a noisy story, then have fun with audience participation.
Material NeededChart Paper Marker Step1Ask the children to brainstorm ideas for effects of sound. Encourage them to name common things that make noises.Step2List children's ideas on chart paper. Challenge them to make the list as long as possible.Note: For the younger children, make a list shorter, and for the non-readers, use picture hints. Some sounds could be included, such as "a clock ticking", "a cat meowing", "a dog barking", "the wind blowing", or "a leaky faucet dripping". Step3Check out the list together after it is complete. Have the children make the appropriate sound after you name each entry. Then ask children to read each entry on the list for describing the sound.Step4For adding more challenge, you may ask children to make up a story that consists each of the sounds. At the mention of any of the noises, have the children create its effect of sound.
