Toddler Music Games

Toddler music games allow toddlers to experience sounds and rhythm while playing. Follow the games I listed on this page, your child will learn how to recognize sounds, make songs and appreciate music. If your toddler mess around with musical instruments, you may think he or she has the power and potential to make "music".

Make Music With Cake Pan

Watching the ball go round and round and listening to the "music". This is one of great toddler music games makes great fun for toddlers.

Material Needed

1 or 2 plastic Wiffle golf balls

Small, round metal cake pans

Instruction

Put one plastic golf ball in the cake pan. Show the children how to hold both sides of the pan firmly. Have them move their hands and the pan from side to side to cause the ball to circle round and round the edge of the pan. The faster each child moves her hands from side to side, the faster the ball goes around and the more "music" she or he can make. It takes a little practice, but once she or he gets the hang of it, she'll be able to make a variety of sounds.

Little Band

Shake, Rattle toddler band practice always makes for a noisy good time. It is also a good cooperative game among the toddler music games.

Material Needed

Baby rattles

Hand Drums

Large wooden train whistle(better for older toddler who aged over 2 years old)maracas

Music shakers(better for older toddler who aged over 2 years old)

Rhythm sticks(better for older toddler who aged over 2 years old)

Sand blocks(better for older toddler who aged over 2 years old)

Tambourine(better for older toddler who aged over 2 years old)

Triangle(better for older toddler who aged over 2 years old)Wooden clackers

Instructions

Sing a familiar toddler song(Songs are always good elements for toddler music games)or play favorite music, and give each toddler an instrument to shake or tap. Most toddlers will need adult's direction for musical play with others, so be prepared to sing songs and demonstrate how to tap or shake each musical instrument to get play started.

Shake around the room

This games encourages toddlers to explore all the different sounds that they can make

Material Needed

Assorted baby rattles and shakers(2 for each child)

Instruction

Give each child her own toddler-safe musical shakers, take two shakers for yourself to make a demo to toddlers, show them to shake the rattle high in the air, loud and fast. Then hold the shaker at waist level and move it slowly to make a quieter sound. Encourage the children to shake their arms or twirl in circles. To change things up, sing some favorite songs for a round of toddler-style dancing and music. Older toddlers may enjoy a version of "Stop and Go Dancing" in which they shake, shake, shake while a song is played, stop shaking and keep silent when the music stops.

Variation

Let Teddy bear or your child's favorite stuffed animal join in the fun by taping a small rattle or musical shaker to his arm, so the children can make more music together by dancing with their toys.
